Pet Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a healing technique that has been used for thousands of years in humans and animals. Acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, a branch of medicine that focuses on a holistic approach with the goal of restoring balance and energy flow (also known as Qi, pronounced “chi”) within the body. Acupuncture utilizes tiny needles to target specific areas of the body, resulting in the release of endorphins and stimulating blood flow and nerve function. This results in pain relief, promotes healing and improves immune function.
Acupuncture treatment may be indicated, and not limited to, treatment of the following conditions: arthritis, allergies, intervertebral disc disease, kidney disease, anxiety, gastrointestinal disorders and more.
Does it hurt? For small animals, the insertion of acupuncture needles is virtually painless, in fact many animals become very relaxed or even fall asleep during sessions.
What to expect? Stimulation of an individual acupuncture point may take as little as 10 seconds or as much as 30 minutes. Patients often start with 1 treatment per week for 4-6 weeks. A positive response is usually seen after the first to third treatments.
How to choose an acupuncturist for my pet?
There are two important criteria you should look for in a veterinary acupuncturist:
1.Your veterinary acupuncturist must be a licensed veterinarian.
2.Your veterinary acupuncturist should have formal training in the practice of acupuncture for animals
